Sek Yuen Restaurant

This is certainly one of the oldest restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. And the building itself is a historical building that is dated 1928. (The year the building is build is engraved at the wall.)

Beside being one of the oldest restaurant in KL, this is also the only restaurant that I know still use wood as the fuel for the stove instead of gas.

There is 2 restaurant with same name that is side by side. The one I normally go will be the one without aircond. More nostalgic. XD
But this is not 2 restaurant. Both still operate by same person. It is just one newer shop with aircond. Another is older shop.

The old cashier counter with some ages photo at the wall.

The chair and table that is maybe older then me. But rest assured, it is still very strong to hold my weight. My parents used to brag about how older furniture is much more stronger and make to last forever. Unlike the furniture nowadays. And in this case, I can't argue with them...

As this is a simple family dinner, I did not order any extraordinary luxurious dish.

The Roast duck here is very famous for it crispy and juicy duck meat and special sweet sour plum sauce. A must order here for duck lover.

The 3rd photo is braised mutton. A lot of people do not know about this dish. I don't think any food blogger actually order this before. But unlike most mutton that have a strange flavor, Sek Yuen chef have perfected their dish throughout the years of cooking. Thus this one is my favourite dish here.

Compared to other newer Chinese Restaurant dish, Sek Yuen dish do not have the kind of decoration and method of preparation. Take the famous "Lou Sang" that is a must during Chinese New Year. Most restaurant way of preparation is putting a lot of fried crispy flour that is colorful and used of Salmon fish instead of the traditional "ma yau" fish. Sek Yuen way is traditional method that use radish, carrot, coriander etc. Other dish at Sek Yuen is also more traditional method but the tasted is sure to captured heart of people. Because they have stand the test of time all this while to be able to still operating till today.

Thai Fish Farm, Hulu Langat

This is the 2nd time I been to this place. The first time, I did not bring along my camera. But this time the photo quality not that good either. Maybe need to plan another visit to this great Thai Restaurant.

Before continue, for those who is less adventurous, you may want to skip this place. The road to go to this restaurant is windy, narrow and bumpy mud road. At times it feel like you are going deep into jungle to a ghost house.

The place is quite hard to be miss if you know how to go Look Out Point. It is just further on about 500 meter and you will see some light signboard on your right hand.
Quite hard to be missed as signboard, and lamp is hard to be seen in that part of the road. Unlike previous part that lead to Look Out Point.

Once you go pass the main gate, you will start the JUNGLE TREKKING.

But after all the adventurous journey, you will be greeted with a large palm leaf roof restaurant that surround the Fish Pond. The owner claim their fish is breed at the pond. That is why it is very fresh. But then the main attraction here is certainly not the fish. Is the Grilled BBQ Crab. (^___^)

(These 2 photo is taken during my first visit.)

Their menu offer quite a variety of food to choose. One visit sure is not enough to try all. So if you like Thai Food, be prepare for more visit here.

The food that we order for that day...

There is a missing Kerabu Mangga. Kind of like slice Mango salad. You can find this under appetizer in most Thai Restaurant. Me and my friend is too hungry that time and forget to take the photo first. ><

Coconut Drink. A must for Thai Food.

Mango Sticky Rice. Another famous Thai delicacy. A simple combination of Mango, Coconut Milk and Glutinous Rice but very tasty. The owner of this restaurant if from Thailand. Thus this taste very similar to Thai local cooking.

Lemon leaf fried chicken. A nice fried chicken marinated and fry with Lemon Grass leaf.

Salt Baked Grilled Fish. A special delicacy here. The skin of the fish is cover with a large amount of salt and then it is grilled. The result is skin that is too salty to be eat. (Well maybe those who is very "ham sap" can eat it. :P) But the fish meat is very juicy and tender. And that is what make this dish great. A must order here beside the grilled crab.

No Thai meal is complete without a bowl of Thai famous Tom Yam. The sour and spicy aroma of the soup is sure to increase the appetite for most people. I try to refrain from any rice for this meal, but just can't resist a few spoon of rice to go with the soup.

The big grilled crab that is the last dish of the day. We save the best for the last. Hehehe (^_^)

Final bill for all the food we had, is RM188. So one person is just RM63. A reasonable price in my opinion.

I will try to include a Map to the place

This is my city, my land, my country.

On 9th July, a big event is organize in Malaysia as a protest for a better and more transparent election poll. But as we can all find in newspaper and internet media, it did not turn out to be a peaceful protest.

The government just view us the people as terrorist and criminal. Prohibiting us from even the basic people rights as stated in a Democracy Country. It is just sad to see their crooked poker face acting at the TV and media. Saying delusional things like want to take action on the international media for "wrong" report of the whole incident. And stating that "no physical contact" from the police with the people that join the protest. As though the police can handcuff a person without touching it.

This is my city, my land, my country. The Malaysia that I have been living in.

Just sad and disappointing.

I did not participate in the protest. Because of fear for the possible consequence from the government. I just stay at home and try to follow their news from the internet.

Peace return to this city after 9th July. The road block, etc just seems disappear. And people moving about with their daily chores. As though yesterday did not happen.

On 11th July, I walk from my office to Low Yat Plaza that is like 1.2km away just to buy a Handphone Battery. Not a short walk, but after the walk I kind of like want to cry. Because I suddenly feel this city is so familiar to me. I know where to turn in the maze of shop in Sungai Wang, so that I can have the shortest route that pass thru the shopping complex.

It is the kind of feeling this is my city. I am a Kuala Lumpur citizen for the pass 20++ years. That is why I know how to take all the shortcut.

And I wish that this city, land and country can continue to prosper. Else I have no choice but to live in a familiar city name yet unfamiliar city in another country.

Yuzu Restaurant, Mid Valley

Well Yuzu is not really the first choice as I really have try most of their menu. But things sometimes just won't work the way you hope it work.

Me and my friend went to il Primo first and been told that il Primo is closed for business. (=_=!)

I have not try their macarone, rabbit stew etc.

My friend suggest to go Sage, Garden Mid Valley. Another nice dining restaurant that I never been to. So off we go zip zap thru the traffic jam from Jalan Conlay all the way to Mid Valley.

When we arrive at Sage, with a hungry stomach, the reception told us that they are fully booked for the night. (=_=!!!)

Not having energy to go any other place, we decide to find a restaurant nearby for the dinner.

So Yuzu is the choice. And lucky for us, when we arrive there is still empty table for us. We did not order from the menu and we ask for the Course Menu. The waiter need to get the boss to serve us. Kind of make me feel like I am VVIP (^__^)
Of course the boss is more knowledgeable in the thing we ask and we settle for a 5 course meal for RM120 per pax. If you willing to pay more, then the meal will be grander with caviar, foie gras, etc.

First on the table is appetizer. As usual Yuzu presentation of food is always impressive. From left to right, Tamago, Enoki with Golden Spinach and Butter Fish with Wasabi Mayo. A simple combination but 1+1 does not mean it must be 2.

The next is the sashimi. Shiro Maguro (白鲔鱼), Otoro Sashimi (上腹黑鮪魚), Salmon Sashimi (三文魚刺身), Suzuki Salshimi (立魚刺身), Hiramasa Sashimi. Well only one piece of sashimi for each type. Kind of too less but considering the price we pay, we can't complain much I guess. So next time I maybe will go for RM200 per pax. If I get my end year bonus. :P

Avocado Gratin. The presentation of this dish is good. And this is the first time I taste Avocado. Not as bad as what I imagine. In fact I find it taste good. Soft and buttery. The Avocado is dig out from the shell and fry together with chicken, fish etc and baked again with Mayo. A very tantalizing experience. Maybe they should put this in the menu.

Oyster Aburiyaki. Oyster after grilled have a different kind of taste. A good change to the usual fresh Oyster that I have eat. The special Yuzu sauce goes very well with the oyster too.

At this point I am talking to my friend that 5 course meal dun seems to satisfy our hunger. Because this is the 4th meal. Luckily the Boss come to attend us and ask are we satisfy with the meal so far. Of course she assure us that there will be sushi and dessert in the end. (^_^)

Next on the table is Beef Kushiyaki and Yakisana. This I feel is a bit of let down as too plain simple compare to previous 4 dish. Not showing the creativity of the chef here.

Plus the last beef is a bit too raw for my tasting. Can see it is bloody red with some red blood water on the dish plate. ><

Next is the sushi roll with Asari Miso Soup. Unagi, Fish Roe and Mango sushi. The Mango Sushi is a surprise. I guess the chef got the idea from Thailand Mango Rice. It does mix well with other ingredient and taste good. (^_^)

The miso soup taste is great too with large clam inside. \(^_^)/ I love the soup.

The last serving for our dinner is the Fruits and Green Tea Ice Cream. I believe their green tea ice cream is home made. Not something you can get from the store.

Trattoria Tanzini, G Tower Hotel

Been a while since I went for a nice dinner with good friends.
Kind of hard to arrange such a date due to my working time... ><

Anyway this place is suggested by my friend and I like the scenery from the restaurant.

Can see my old office from where I seat.

I am late when I reach the restaurant and let my friend wait for an hour. (Sorry) However she is very understanding and did not blame me much. (Good manner girl. ^_^)

The menu look expensive to me. A little bit pricier then the usual fine dining restaurant that I went. But given the ambiance and scenery from the restaurant, it is forgiven.

However that does not means I will try all their menu. I am very poor. (><)

So I go for their lunch set.

First on their serving is the complimentary bread. It is a surprise that the restaurant put effort to bake these complimentary bread. The bread come with 3 extra sauce to spice up the taste of the bread.

After the bread, is taken, the waiter start to put down utensil for the meal. And that is when I notice the knife have my name initial. (^___^)

So add mark for this restaurant to my list of recommended dining restaurant.

And then come the Appetizer

From left is Mozzarella Cheese, Smoked duck with mandarin orange, Smoked Salmon with Caviar.

As what good appetizer should do, it tempt us and make us asking for more.

The drinks is also serve while me and my friend are busy taking the photos. XD

The Trattoria Lychee Mocktail which is very soothing for my throat.

Fruit Delight Mocktail. From the look it should be Orange juice with some other juice mixture. She did not complain about it so another good drinks.

This is my main course. Herb Baked Organic Jade Perch Fillet. The portion is really for those with smaller stomach as the 2 small piece of fish fillet is not enough for me. The taste is still great. Can feel the fresh taste of the fish.

My friend main course is Char-Grilled Lamb Rack with homemade Chili Fettuccine and Jumbo Asparagus. But it suffer the same portion problem. Her comment is the lamb looks fat but is not oily. Thumbs up on this.

We decide to order one more main course meal instead of leaving the restaurant with half full stomach. Our choice is this Tanzini Tiger Prawn Vongolle.

The Tiger prawn is very large and fresh. Another great dish from Tanzini.

Last to be serve is the Dessert

The dessert for the day is Opera Cake and Chocolate Cheese Cake.
The cheese cake taste is good. Unlike the cheese cake from other shop, this cheese cake feel smooth and not too cheesy.

The bill at the end is RM240 for 2 person. (Ouch~!)

But the price is expected and definitely did not stop me from coming again.

Some of the photo taken from the Tanzini.
