Sek Yuen Restaurant

This is certainly one of the oldest restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. And the building itself is a historical building that is dated 1928. (The year the building is build is engraved at the wall.)

Beside being one of the oldest restaurant in KL, this is also the only restaurant that I know still use wood as the fuel for the stove instead of gas.

There is 2 restaurant with same name that is side by side. The one I normally go will be the one without aircond. More nostalgic. XD
But this is not 2 restaurant. Both still operate by same person. It is just one newer shop with aircond. Another is older shop.

The old cashier counter with some ages photo at the wall.

The chair and table that is maybe older then me. But rest assured, it is still very strong to hold my weight. My parents used to brag about how older furniture is much more stronger and make to last forever. Unlike the furniture nowadays. And in this case, I can't argue with them...

As this is a simple family dinner, I did not order any extraordinary luxurious dish.

The Roast duck here is very famous for it crispy and juicy duck meat and special sweet sour plum sauce. A must order here for duck lover.

The 3rd photo is braised mutton. A lot of people do not know about this dish. I don't think any food blogger actually order this before. But unlike most mutton that have a strange flavor, Sek Yuen chef have perfected their dish throughout the years of cooking. Thus this one is my favourite dish here.

Compared to other newer Chinese Restaurant dish, Sek Yuen dish do not have the kind of decoration and method of preparation. Take the famous "Lou Sang" that is a must during Chinese New Year. Most restaurant way of preparation is putting a lot of fried crispy flour that is colorful and used of Salmon fish instead of the traditional "ma yau" fish. Sek Yuen way is traditional method that use radish, carrot, coriander etc. Other dish at Sek Yuen is also more traditional method but the tasted is sure to captured heart of people. Because they have stand the test of time all this while to be able to still operating till today.
